Well, it happened. Just like I was afraid it was going to...I went on a real nice break from blogging. It crossed my mind many times, I just never really got around to actually sitting down and typing anything up. Playing our games early tonight, I now have time to sit and rant some of my thoughts down. This summer has consisted of 36 baseball games already and over 26 hours spent on that lovely yellow school bus...and it is only June 17th- sure is a great thing that I love baseball. Anyways, with all that time on the bus, I have had plenty of time to think and reflect. Here are some of my thoughts from this summer:
1. It does not matter how tired you are, the alarm is still going to go off at the time you set it.
2. Unfortunately, Dairy Queen is not open 24 hours.
3. Once you convince players that you are in coaching for them, they will run through a brick wall for you.
4. Convincing them of this is not easy.
5. Parents know more than you. Period.
6. Reading a book of poetry will get you some weird looks on a baseball bus.
7. Never assume that the umpire was actually watching the play.
8. You learn more when you listen.
9. If you are not able to motivate yourself, how can you expect your players to be motivated by you?
10. Lead by example.
11. Freshman shouldn't carry equipment. The seniors should, show leadership.
12. A well executed hit and run is a thing of beauty.
13. If the worst thing that happens to you all summer is a 0-3 game with two errors, you had a pretty darn good summer in my opinion.
14. Life gets harder, not easier.
15. Some people want to see you fail, avoid these people.
16. The ones who are the first to tell you about what so-and-so did, is also the first person to talk behind your back.
17. Never swing at a 3-0 pitch, I don't care how good it is.
18. The best things in life are the things that you are not expecting.
19. Every person is going through something that you have no idea they are- don't be too harsh until you know the whole story.
20. We all have done stupid things.
21. Prepare like you have the job that you want, not the job that you have.
22. Nobody is too "advanced" to do manual labor.
23. Don't like it? Change it. Can't change it? Quit complaining.
24. You have to have self-confidence in life to do well.
25. Why do something if you aren't passionate about it?
26. There are few things better than the sound of a Mountain Dew opening.
27. BBCOR will never be the same as BESR.
28. Read. The wise man reads, the fool tells how smart he is.
